Girlboss: An Impolite Conversation with Girlboss’ Sophia Amoruso. This Wednesday June 14, Mint is teaming up with Girlboss in New York City to have an impolite conversation about money. Girlboss founder and CEO, Sophia Amoruso and finance expert Farnoosh Torabi will gather a panel of emerging female entrepreneurs to share their financial ups, downs, and woulda-coulda-shouldas.

Before the doors open, Sophia and Farnoosh are joining Mint for a Facebook Live at 5:45 pm ET / 2:45 pm PT. In prep for our live discussion, Mint Life recently touched base with Sophia to ask her thoughts about money, as well as a few tips along her financial journey.

Here’s a sneak peek at what she had to say. Check here for more information to join us on June 14 for more during the live conversation! You may also follow us at #ManageMINT @Girlboss or @Mint (@MintApp on Instagram).

Mint Life: Why is it important to you and the Girlboss mission to engage in conversations around money?

@SophiaAmoruso: Personal finance is a category so ripe for demystifying, with no one leading the conversation for women. Learning the hard way certainly has its costs, which I’ve endured both personally and professionally. Money is about choice, and the more educated we are about how we handle our finances, the better we’re able to make decisions around our finances, and the more women can be in a position of choice as it comes to our lives, careers and families.

Mint Life: For you personally, how would you describe your [attitude toward or relationship with or philosophy about] money?

@SophiaAmoruso: Money is something that can be your best friend or your worst enemy, regardless of how much you have. My heart rate drops when I know how much I can spend, how much I’m saving, and am being frugal with the occasional splurge. Minimizing the emotional roller coaster that money concerns can create is important, freeing up our headspace to think about more energizing and creative opportunities and outlets in our lives.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a new pair of shoes just like the next girl, but even more, I love the feeling of knowing that I’m doing something good for myself and making my money work harder into the future. Framing my choices about money in terms of the opportunities I’m creating today v. tomorrow feels really good – try it out!

Mint Life: What financial advice would you give your 20-something year-old self?

@SophiaAmoruso: Quite honestly, I’d remind my current self of the advice I was living by at 20 instead! Once we have a little money, it’s easy to get used to a lifestyle. The grass is always greener, which can be tough as people tend to think if they only had more money they would be better off and perhaps, feel happier, but that’s not necessarily true. More money does not always equal fewer worries and more happiness. Being mindful remains critical regardless of the dollars coming in.

Along those lines, we have to find ways to support our lifestyle. Living within your means is a beautiful thing. Saving money is a beautiful thing. I could certainly be saving more right now, and am trying to find ways to do so.

Mint Life: You recently wrote: “When your time spent making money is significantly greater than your time spent spending money, you will be amazed at how much you can save without even really thinking about it.” So much of our relationship with money is about things we have to do, but tonight we’re hoping to shift that perspective to help the Girlboss and Mint communities have a more positive, empowered relationship with their money. What would you consider as your current money intention?

@SophiaAmoruso: Spend less, save more. Build, build, build!
